The Board of Director’s position for Divisions 2 and 5 will terminate on January 8, 2018. The director currently holding the position for Division 2 is Shirley DeMaris and the director currently holding the position for Division 5 is Dr. Martin Warbington.
This position is for a three-year term, beginning January 9, 2018, and terminating January 11, 2021. The incumbent may apply for an additional term, and any qualified elector from the division may run for this position. If you wish to run for this position, you may pick up a petition and a list of qualified electors at the District office on or after Thursday, August 31, 2017. Completed petitions must be received in the District office by 5:00 P.M., Tuesday, October 10, 2017. Petitions must have at least ten signatures of qualified electors. If more than one candidate applies, an election will be held Tuesday, November 14, 2017.
If it is necessary to have an election for Division 2 or 5 this year, we must have completed voter registration cards on file prior to the election. These cards are kept on file at the District office, to be used as a comparison of signatures when mail-in ballots are received. If you have not already returned your voter registration cards, we ask that you please submit them as soon as possible. General Election Laws require that the Voter Registration Form be completed not less than 21 days before the next election, in order to vote in that election. We appreciate your help in ensuring the integrity of our elections.
The qualifications for the voter are:
- 18 years of age or older.
- An owner or a vendee under contract of purchase of land situated within the District and subject to the charges or assessments of the District.
These are the same qualifications required to sign a petition supporting a candidate.
Where land is held in multiple ownership, such as husband and wife or in a trust, only one party may vote.
In the case of a Corporation, Partnership, or Limited Liability Company only one vote shall be allowed on behalf of all the owners under the multiple ownership. The vote may be cast by any one of the multiple owners who holds an authorization in writing from the other owners (Voter Authorization Form).
State law provides for the following number of votes:
- One vote for up to 40 acres;
- Two votes for more than 40 acres and up to 160 acres; and
- Three votes for more than 160 acres.
A person wishing to run for director should be able to attend as many of the monthly meetings as possible. The Board generally meets the second Tuesday of each month at 10:00 A.M. at the District office.
